We understand that plans can change, and we aim to be as flexible as possible within our policy. Here's how refunds and exchanges work for unused Smart Revise vouchers:
Time limits for changes
You can request a refund or exchange for unallocated vouchers within:
- 3 months of purchase, or
- 3 months from the start of the academic year (if purchased in advance).
These were the terms and conditions you positively opted into when creating your account.
Examples:
If you buy vouchers in September, you have until December to request a refund or exchange.
If you buy in June for a September start, you also have until December to make changes.
Changing course mid-year
If your school switches courses before terminal exams (e.g., between Year 10 and Year 11), we may be able to help. In such cases:
- We can disable the current vouchers.
- We’ll gift you free vouchers for the new course — for the same number of students and at no extra cost.
What we don’t support
To keep things fair and simple, please note:
- Unused vouchers cannot be used as credit towards future purchases.
- Previously allocated vouchers cannot be refunded or exchanged (for example for a new cohort).
- Advance purchases at future prices are not supported. For example, you can't buy vouchers now for a 3-year course and use them later for a 2-year course at today’s price.
- We cannot schedule vouchers to be activated at a future date.
Why do vouchers expire?
Voucher expiry dates are essential for maintaining the sustainability and affordability of Smart Revise. Here's why:
1. Financial planning
When schools hold onto unused vouchers as "credit" it creates uncertainty in our revenue. We plan our staffing and product development based on sales, assuming that purchased vouchers represent actual income. If many vouchers are later refunded or exchanged, it reduces our revenue and affects future planning.
2. Encouraging timely use
Expiry dates encourage teachers to allocate and use vouchers promptly. This helps us manage resources more predictably and ensures students benefit from the platform when they need it most.
3. Simplifying operations
Managing vouchers indefinitely adds complexity to our systems and customer service. Expiry dates help us:
- Avoid honouring vouchers under outdated terms and conditions.
- Keep our processes simple and efficient.
- Offer schools the lowest possible price by reducing administrative overhead.
In summary, expiry dates help us maintain a healthy cash flow, streamline operations, and continue delivering high-quality support and development — all crucial for a small business like ours.
