How to mark tasks quickly

Use the “Unmarked” buttons at the top of the marking interface to navigate to the next unmarked student or the next unmarked question. The arrows allow you to navigate from student to student or question to question, but this is not as efficient.

The fastest way to mark a task is to mark the same question for all the students before moving on to the next question. This will reduce your cognitive load because you will only have to remember one question and one mark scheme at a time.

Once you have completed the marking for a question, select the up arrow next to the “Submit” button.

Select “Submit & next unmarked student”. This will navigate to the next student for the same question and change back to the Answer tab. As this is the same question you should not need to navigate back to the question tab.

Your submit button will now be configured to always Submit and navigate to the next student until you change it. There is no need to select the config arrow again.

Why have we changed the UI?

  1. Teachers were asking for more navigation options with a submit button customisation.
  2. Teachers were asking for a less cluttered screen.
  3. Teachers were asking for student status descriptions instead of status letters.
  4. Larger questions with code required too much scrolling. Teachers said they didn’t need to see the question, feedback, or references on the screen all at the same time.
  5. The new MARCKS feedback system used too much screen space resulting in too much scrolling.

We know adapting to a new UI is always awkward at first. In time we hope you will find this approach much easier to use.
