Creating a new task

To create a new task, log into your teacher account, then navigate to the course and class you wish to set a new task for and click Tasks:


Click on New task to get started.


The task creation wizard will guide you through the process of setting a new task up.

1. Create: This is where you will give your task a name - and a description if you wish.
You can also hide command word help, toggle on if you want a mock exam style task.


You can also add tags to your task by clicking the Add tags button. You can select from the predefined tag options or enter your own.


2. Topics: This is where you can set specific topics for your task.
To toggle topics on or off, check or uncheck the appropriate boxes.

3. Experience: This is where you can set different types of questions
As you add different question types, a pie graph will show the split of questions you have chosen and the estimated time to complete the task.

Once you are happy with your selection, click Save and continue.

4. Questions: The system will then pick questions based on your selections.
  1. You can change specific questions by clicking Change.
  2. You can change the whole selection by clicking Generate new questions.
  3. You can view the full question by clicking the eye icon.

When you are satisfied with the list of questions, click Next.

5. Marking: There are three marking modes available.

  1. Marked by teacher: Any teacher of the class can mark the task - Quiz questions are marked automatically.
  2. Self assessment: The student will mark their own work, but you will choose who commits the final marks to the mark book:
    1. a. Teacher only: Only the teacher can commit marks to the mark book
    2. b. Student or teacher: Students or teachers can commit marks to the mark book.
  3. Peer assessment: Students mark each other's work anonymously, but again, you will choose who commits the final marks to the mark book.

6. Schedule: There are three different scheduling types available.

  1. No deadline for submission: The student must submit the task when they are finished
  2. Allow late submissions: Students can continue working until they submit their work. 
  3. Deadlines enforced: The task is automatically submitted on the deadline if not already submitted by the student.
If Allow late submissions is selected, you will be able to track overdue tasks.

You can set task availability using the date picker.


If Allow late submissions or Deadlines enforced are selected, you can also choose a deadline for your task.


7. Summary: This will provide you with an overview of your choices up to this point. When you are happy, click Next.

You can go back and make changes to your task before clicking Finish.

8. Students: This is where you can assign your task to specific students.
If you want to assign your task to specific students, you can do so from this screen using the tick list.


When you are happy with your student selection, click NextThe task will now be visible to the students you have assigned it to.

You will also be able to view and copy a shareable link for the task from this screen.


Click Finish to go back to the Active tasks screen for your course.
If you forgot to copy the shareable link, you will be able to find it again under task details.
